Eric Omondi says Kenya’s music industry is “DEAD”

A move by controversial comedian Eric Omondi to suggest that Kenya’s music industry is “dead” has enraged a number of musicians.<br>”Our musicians have devolved into mere openers for international acts.” In our own country, we’ve turned into clowns. Every weekend, a group of three or four foreign artists gathers in Nairobi.”

Not satisfied, Omondi advised musicians to use the post-pandemic period to improve their craft.

“Where have all the Kenyan concerts gone?” Now that the curfew has been lifted, it is time to dust ourselves off and get to work. Let South Africans host monthly GENGETONE festivals in Johannesburg, and let our musicians tour other countries and cities every weekend.”
