This blog post talks about Shabana FC which is also referred to as Glamour Boys. It will feature the history of the team, Shabana FC Captain, the coach, the players and the current FIFA rankings.

History of Shabana FC

The club was formed in 1980 by Kisii-based businessman Dogo Khan.

Shabana was third in the 1987 Kenyan First Division with 50 points (behind champions Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards), earning qualification to the 1988 edition of the then equivalent of the CAF Champions League.

Their ground is the Gusii stadium.

They won the second-tier division title in 2014. They were promoted back to the FKF Premier League after winning the Zone B of the FKF Division One.

It had nearly collapsed in 2006 when a dispute over its relegation from the Kenyan Premier League.

They were set to play in Nationwide League, the second level tier in Kenya, but refused to participate insisting they belong to the Premier League (who did not readmit them).

As a result, the club did not participate in any league in 2007. However, the team regrouped and was renamed Gusii United Football Club, eventually returning to league football.

On 28 October 2018, Shabana was upgraded to Kenya’s second largest league The Kenya National Super League after defeating Mwatate on penalties the game that went full time 1–1 at Kasarani Stadium Nairobi.

Shabana emerged top of the League after winning against Kisumu All Stars in the final match of the season at Gusii Stadium earning them promotion to the Top tier League in Kenya, The Kenya Premier League 2023/2024.

Governing Body of Shabana FC

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is the body that controls all football-related activities in Kenya.

The Federation was founded in 2011 to replace the former association, the Football Kenya Limited (FKL) after the latter was disbanded for wanting to cease being a Limited Company.

In 2012, the FKF gained recognition from CAF, CECAFA, and FIFA as Kenya’s official football association and ever since.

The organization has been responsible for the coordination of the Kenyan Premier League, the Kenyan Women’s Premier League and the FKF Division.
