Five people confirmed dead after a matatu they were travelling in rammed into a trailer at Nyakome area on the Kisii-Nyamira Highway on Monday morning.
According to reports,5 others sustained sever injuries and are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals in Kisii.
Nyamira County Commissioner Michael Lesimam has confirmed.
This fateful incident comes after the National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) kicked off a 30 day road safety campaign.
The campaign is aimed at addressing challenges leading road accidents and reducing number of fatalities.
A report from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicates that the number of road accidents fatalities increased from 3,707 in 2020 to 4,347 in 2021.
Nairobi County led the fatality cases with 495 cases, followed by Kiambu (425), Machakos (205), Meru (158) and Murang’a recorded 150 fatalities.
