DCI boss George Kinoti sentenced to 4 months in prison

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has been sentenced  to 4 months imprisonment over contempt of court.

Kinoti was sentenced for disobeying court orders that required him to release firearms belonging to businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.

He is required to surrender to police authorities within 7 days failure to which the Inspector general of police will effect the warranty of arrest.

High Court judge had earlier directed the DCI and Inspector General Of Police and DPP to return all fire arms taken from the businessman’s residence in 2017.

The firearms are one pistol ,a smith and Wesson, one Glock pistol and one assault riffle.

Wanjigi filed a contempt of court once the DCI failed to return the firearms.

He wanted them committed to jail.

But the DCI boss says they had appealed against the High Court decision and the matter is still pending at the Court of Appeal.

In the case, DCI argues that some of the firearms held by Wanjigi are high precision military firearms not authorized to be held by civilians in Kenya under the Firearms Act.

In September ,Kinoti was to attend court but he filed an affidavit and chose not to attend court.
