2024 top 10 most selected national schools

The Minister of Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has revealed the top ten national schools most sought after by 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates. The CS made the announcement on Monday during the release of the 2024 Form One selection and placement results at Lenana School.

At the top of the list is Kabianga High School which was selected by 186,357 learners despite having a capacity of only 672.Nanyuki High School took the second position, with 158,741 applications but with a 480 capacity.Pangani Girls occupied the third position with 144,542 applications with a capacity for 384 students, closely followed by Kapsabet Boys, with a capacity of 432 was chosen by 143,723 students.

Alliance Girls’ High School occupied the fifth position with 135,033 selections with a capacity of 384.

123,777 applications was Maseno School which came in in sixth place followed by Nakuru High School with 115,513 applications.

Butere Girls High School occupied the eighth position which was chosen by 114,635 students, and a capacity for 480 students.
Mang’u High School was selected by 112,938 students, securing the ninth position, as Alliance High School rounded up the list with 110,839 applications and a 384 capacity.

In the placement,2,225 students with special needs have been placed relevant institutions as 1,214 are boys and 1,011 are girls.

He said all students who scored 400 and above were placed in either national or extra-county schools of their choice.

The rest were placed in county schools in accordance with the parameters in place.
Students with special needs were placed in either disability or regular schools based on their disability categories, merits and choice.

Among the placed students, 130 students from informal settlements in urban areas have been placed in national schools and 167 have been placed in extra-county learning institutions – 150 are girls and 147 are boys.

CS Machogu also added that vulnerable and marginalized learners who attained 280 and above, a total of 14,426, will benefit from government scholarships.

Cs added that candidates with special needs and disabilities who attained 280 and below will also be eligible for the scholarships and refugees who attained 240 (girls) and 250 (boys) will also benefit from the scholarships.

The candidates are expected to start joining Form One on January 15, 2024.
