Google to invest Up to ksh 113bn in partnership with Airtel

Alphabet Inc’s Google on Friday January,28 announced they will be investing  up to $1billion(Ksh113Billion) in Bharti Airtel ,a move to accelerate the growth of India’s digital ecosystem.

The partnership will focus on affordable access to smartphones across price ranges and will continue to explore building on their existing partnership to co-create India specific domain use cases for 5G and other standards ,and help accelerate the cloud ecosystem for businesses across India.

The amount is part of $10billion (ksh1.1 trillion) from ‘Google for India Digitization Fund’ that was announced by the CEO of Google and Alphabet Sundar Pichai in 2020.

“Part of the partnership will include equity investment as well as a corpus for potential commercial agreements ,to be identified and agreed on mutually agreeable terms over the course of the next 5 years.” said the organization.

“Together ,we will work to bring the best in class end to end products to serve customer needs, provide quality customer experience ,bring their expertise to solve problem of affordability, access and digital inclusion .”the organization added
