Several passengers on Monday morning were killed and many others injured after a matatu they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) along Arabia-Mandera Highway.
The matatu was headed to Mandera Town when they ran over the bomb.
Police suspect the explosion was set up by Al-Shabaab militants operating in the area after crossing the porous Kenya-Somalia border.
North Eastern’s new regional commander, George Seda, stated that no arrests were made following the attack, but that forces were on the ground pursuing leads.
The incident happened eight kilometers from Mandera Town and response teams have evacuated those injured.
