National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula interacts with Kenyans who lives in Zanzibar.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and members of the House Business Committee while in Lusaka, Zambia, has interacted with Kenyans living in the southern African nation.

On the sidelines of an engagement with the Zambian National Assembly’s House Business Committee, Wetangula met and interacted with Kenyans.

During the meeting, they explored a number of opportunities that Zambia presents, challenges and brainstormed on possible solutions for existing bottlenecks towards enhancing their well-being abroad.

While recognizing that citizens in the diaspora play a vital role in bolstering Kenyans’ economy, Wetangula noted that Kenyans are uniquely resilient and that’s why many are in the limelight of opportunities.

He said Kenyans consistently exhibit capability, experience, and invaluable skills needed in various sectors across the globe.

It is reported that approximately 30 per cent of the IT sector in Zambia benefits from Kenyan technology expertise.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula said the figures are a clear indication of the potential of Kenyans to make even more impactful contributions in the growth and development of the country.

“It’s evident that our diplomatic focus is now predominantly economic rather than ideological. Therefore, we need to enact policies that determine how Kenyans are engaged with and treated while abroad,” Moses Wetangula said.

During the address, he emphasized the need to foster unity regardless of political affiliation even when abroad he still makes an effort of working out about the growth of our country Kenya.

He further encouraged Kenyans in Zambia to remain patriotic and true to the words of the Kenyan National Anthem in order to promote peace, unity, harmony and togetherness.

“Our ambassadors should function effectively as protectors of our citizens in foreign lands, and the establishment of proper bilateral relations is the key to addressing the issues faced by the diaspora”, he added.

Wetangula added that it was important to be treated with respect and dignity in all their endeavor’s.

“Our collective identity as a nation transcends geographical boundaries, and it is our responsibility to ensure that every Kenyan is respected and cared for,” headed.

Earlier, the House Business Committee of Zambia’s National Assembly hosted Wetangula at the Parliament of Zambia.

The high-profile meeting provided a platform for the exchange of ideas regarding parliamentary procedures in the two nations.

Members of the two-House Business Committees shared insights into the composition of their respective legislative chambers and the various committees that operate within them.
